Ingredients:
1 pound beef round steak/beef sirloin/beef tenderloin, thinly sliced
3 cloves garlic, minced
2 large onions, ring cut
8 tbsp lemon or calamansi juice
½ cup dark soy sauce, Asian brand or preferably Kikkoman’s
2 tbsp cooking oil
water
pepper to taste
Directions:
- In a bowl, mix garlic, soy sauce, and lemon or kalamansi. Taste mixture. If it's too sour, add more soy sauce. Add more lemon juice if it's too salty.
- Slice beef meat into 1/4-inch strips. Pound it with a meat tenderizer.
- Season meat with ground pepper.
- Add meat to soy sauce mixture. Stir well to create even distribution of meat in marinade. Let it sit in marinade for 30 minutes.
- In a heated skillet, pour in one tablespoon of oil.
- Stir fry the onion rings until clear in color but a bit brown on the edges. Remove from skillet. Set aside.
- In the same pan, heat one tablespoon of oil. Pan-fry the beef in batches until both sides turn brown.
- Pour the marinade into the skillet.
- Bring to a slow boil. Let it simmer for a few minutes or until cooked through.
- Taste the sauce and adjust according to your preference with more soy sauce or juice, or some water. Allow it to simmer for 3 to 5 minutes.
- Arrange the beef slices onto a serving plate. Add the onion rings on top.
- Pour the rest of the sauce.
